Collage Research

Proposal Form

Images for inspiration

I found some images that I could use as inspiration and annotated them with which techniques I think were used and the inspiration I can take from them. The main thing I learned from this page of research is that I really like the contrast between black and white drawings or photography with the coloured flowers and that I'd also like try doing my flowers in a similar style as the first image with the water colour and line drawings because I think it looks really effective as they flow better together and blend better than the collages that just use photography for the flowers like the one underneath it.

The main inspiration I can take from this page is again as above the contrast between black and white subjects with coloured details is really effective and still lets the subject be the main focus if you keep the details surrounding it and not too much over it. I also found some different styles of drawing the woman and would now like to try drawing it in pencil like the bottom right and maybe experimenting with inks or water colour paints like the bottom left.

Moodboard

Next I made a moodboard with more images for inspiration. I chose the first image on the left because I would like to try doing the woman in a similar style because it is very simple with not many lines so wouldnt compete with the detail of all the flowers and would keep the collage simpler but it is still very bold and I think would still stand out against the bright colours of the flowers. I also like the bright colour on the lips to add some colour to the image and I think I will try doing this with mine so that the colour starts in the drawing before moving into the flowers. Another image that stood out to me on this page as a big inspiration was the middle far left image with all the flowers because I like the explosion of colour and it also has leaves, lines and dots added in to add even more colour and texture and I would like to create a simplified water colour version in a similar style to this but with pencil drawing layed over water colour.

Next I found images from various art movements that related to my collage because of similar themes, layouts or styles. Doing this helped me to see how my design could be made in various different art movement styles and helped give me inspiration for how to incorporate these different styles in my work. The biggest inspirations to me from this page is the layout of the pop art picture along with the way the butterflys fly off the page as I could do this layout with my flowers and the symbolism image with the black outline girl and watercolour background because I think the contrast makes this really effective so I will try something similar with my designs.
